Getting Started with Cloud Connect

Lytics is excited to introduce Cloud Connect, a powerful tool that enables you to activate your customer data, without moving or duplicating it from your data warehouse. Using Cloud Connect, you can run SQL queries from Lytics on tables in your data warehouse and send audience membership results directly to your downstream marketing tools.
Use Cases
Cloud Connect unlocks a variety of use cases for both Marketing and IT teams.
-
Get more value from your cloud data warehouse. Avoid duplicate data stores. Speed time to activation. Maintain a single source of truth in your data warehouse for customer data while respecting access permissions and governance protocols.
-
Reduce your reliance on building one-off integrations. Instantly connect to over 40 common marketing tools and business systems. With our pre-built integrations, Lytics Cloud Connect lets your teams take advantage of the rich customer data in your data warehouse, without requiring your IT/dev teams to build and maintain one-off connectors.
-
Improve ROAS by refining your target audience on any ad platform. Curate specialized target audiences for your ad campaigns. Use standard SQL queries to pull past purchasers, subscriber lists or reward members from your data warehouse and test new advertising audiences immediately, and improve your return on ad spend (ROAS).
-
Improve email conversions with better segmentation. Improve your email open, click thru and conversion rates by building better audience segments directly from your data warehouse. Curate email lists using Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) scores, Net Promoter Scores or other key metrics being calculated in your data warehouse.
Supported Data Warehouses
Cloud Connect currently supports Google BigQuery, Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, and Microsoft Azure. You will only need to set up a Connection to your data warehouse once before you can start writing SQL queries to build audiences in Lytics.
Supported Destinations
The Process
Cloud Connect is designed to be a quick and easy way to start activating the customer data stored in your data warehouse. We're talking about getting set up in the matter of minutes -- not weeks or months. Using Cloud Connect involves three main steps:
- Set up a Connection to your data warehouse.
- Build your Audience using a SQL query.
- Export your Audience to a Destination.
We will walk you through this process. To start, let's set up your first connection.
Create a Connection
Click Create New Connection and complete the following steps.
- Choose your provider.
- Choose the Connection type.
- Select an existing authorization or create a new one.
- Add a name (label), description, and complete the configuration options. These will vary slightly between providers.
What data is brought into Lytics from your Connection?
Lytics only brings in audience membership data based on your SQL query. This allows you to access the data stored in your warehouse without importing it, which decreases costs and removes the need to duplicate data across tools.
Secure Access to your Data Warehouse
Your Connection authorization controls whether a user has read access to your entire dataset or individual tables. This lets you maintain your security and governance practices within your data warehouse.
Build your Audience
From your Connection summary page, click Create Audience at the top right. This will open up the Lytics Audience Builder.
- Enter the name for your audience.
- (Optional) Add a description and slug.
- Select the data source. Your Connection will be pre-selected when you go directly from its summary page.
- Enter the SQL query to define your audience criteria. You can either write the query directly in Lytics or copy it over from your data warehouse environment.
- Test the query to view a sample of 100 records.
- Select the query frequency.
Audience Sizes
Lytics queries your data warehouse on the specified cadence. When each query is run Lytics adds new rows of data and removes rows that no longer exists in the most recent query result. The audience size represents the up to date number of rows of data in the audience.
Once your audience is set, the next step is to export it to your destination.
Export to a Destination
Now comes the most important part - activating your audience in your downstream tools! From the audience summary view, click Export at the top right. Cloud Connect audiences can be exported to any destination you have authorized in your Lytics account.
